POST CONSUMER RECYCLED (PCR)
A practical approach to improving sustainability and reducing the environmental impact
PCR

As part of the circular economy, recycling of an increased number and volume of molded products and returning the resin (PCR) back into the molding stream instead of the waste stream is a practical approach to improving sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of molding businesses.

In general, molding a product using PCR is more challenging than molding a product using virgin resin and inherently puts additional pressure on the molding process and overall productivity.

Challenges include:

  • Melt Flow Index (MFI) variability resulting in narrow molding windows

  • Foreign contaminates contained within PCR regrind, high maintenance needs

  • Physical part qualities and variable shrinkage rates of PCR plastic parts

  • Process control and scrap management practices

StackTeck is well positioned to support our customers in advancing the use of PCR in their molding processes.
