1.65 MILLION POUNDS IN PLASTIC PARTS WEIGHT SAVINGS PER YEAR WITH STACKTECK’S TRIM TECHNOLOGY

Brampton, Ontario, Canada: StackTeck Systems Ltd., a global manufacturer of multi-cavity, high-volume production molds, has estimated that the amount of plastic weight savings that have resulted from their very own TRIMTM technology (Thin Recess Injection Molding) is now at 1.65 million pounds per year. These savings have been possible as more customers have taken advantage of our TRIMTM technology in various thinwall packaging applications. These savings are the result of every production mold that StackTeck has manufactured using TRIMTM.

These plastic part weight savings play a significant role when assessing the environmental impacts from all stages of the life cycle of products, leading to CO2 emission reductions equivalent to energy use from several hundred homes.

In one recent example, a life cycle assessment was performed on a rectangular thinwall food packaging container highlighting once again the significant advantages that our TRIMTM technology can offer to customers and the environment. The life cycle analysis (LCA) was done by StackTeck, working in collaboration with SPIES Packaging to assess the environmental impact resulting from light weighting a 1 Liter container using TRIM technology for a single production stack mold.

Jeff Ngai, Director of Engineering stated, “StackTeck has taken a step further and quantified the environmental benefits of a TRIMTMproject by performing a life cycle assessment. In this study, a 21% weight reduction from 28 g to 22 g resulted in 19.5% reduction in the carbon footprint of the whole process from resin extraction to end of life of the product. In other words, “this represents the equivalent of 922,259 pounds of coal burning avoidance.”

The use of our TRIMTM technology not only represents significant savings for our customers but also solidifies our commitment to offering sustainable solutions to the plastics packaging industry.
